    So this happened in March.

There was a viral video going around about a Zepto delivery guy who had around ₹17k per week in his wallet. It got me thinking—maybe I could try this too.

I already have a corporate job, but recently there have been some financial issues at home. So I decided to give it a shot as a side hustle. Nothing too crazy—just few hours daily after my 9 to 6.

It’s been a couple of weeks now.

    And honestly… it’s not what I expected.

Some days I don’t even make ₹500. A few orders literally paid me ₹14–₹15 including petrol. At that point, it starts to feel weird .

I thought about quitting multiple times. But something stuck with me that once my pasandida mahila mitr said to me:

“How can someone stay calm after knowing they’re earning less than their potential?”

    So I kept going.

Then one day, I reached the warehouse around 8 PM—my usual time. But that day was different. There was a crowd of delivery guys standing outside.

Turns out, they had decided not to work. They were on strike because of low payouts.

I didn’t say much. Just stood there, watching everything unfold.

After some time, a manager—apparently the head of Surat—arrived.

And instead of talking… he started shouting.

He said he would fire everyone.

Told people to either go inside and work or leave immediately.

And then he said something that honestly shocked me—he threatened to call goons to deal with the guys leading the strike.

For a moment, it just didn’t feel real.

I think most of us were expecting some kind of conversation. At least hearing them out.

    But that didn’t happen.

I just stood there thinking… is this what it comes down to? People asking for fair pay being treated like they’re disposable?

Now I’m honestly confused—should I keep pushing through this because I need the money, or walk away from something that clearly doesn’t value their people at all?

For anyone here who’s done gig work…does it ever actually get better, or is this just how the system is?
