    Facebook Ads – Testing Creatives

Bare in mind that these questions are about non-dynamic ads.

    1. If you’re testing creatives and you have a few that are not profitable – what metrics make you decide to test them a little bit more (except conversions)? Is cheap CPM gonna make a difference? or high CTR?
    2. How much do you spend per 1 ad creative to test it that has no sales? At what point do you say “okay, that’s enough, this isn’t going anywhere?” Let’s assume the CTR and CPM are average – and no sales.
    3. What’s the minimum you spend per ad creative to test it?
    4. Bonus question – Broad targeting. How much do you need to spend for broad targeting ad set (1-3 ads) so that it start working? Very general question, I know, if you don’t have specific numbers in mind, feel free to just type a range
    5. Bonus question 2 – Interest Stack – what do you think about it? People are pro-broad nowadays, and as long as I agree that facebook’s targeting is the worst it has ever been – I think it doesn’t hurt to throw an interest stack to direct facebook a little bit. Using only broad interest, so let’s say I’m selling a t shirt and throw an apparel interest and up to 3 more. Targeting expansion is on by default – so if facebook wishes, it may go as broad as it wants anyways. And with broad interest it’s hard to go wrong I think, like based on my example of tshirt and apparel.

Also – please bear in mind that my budget is around $1000-1500 per month. I understand that marketing agencies and bigger businesses don’t have to worry about certain things – but we, smaller businesses that don’t have 10k to blow on broad campaign right away – need to get some sales at the lowest cost possible at first. When I was watching multiple YT videos about broad campaigns, most of those people are working in marketing agencies and referred to 5k/month as “a smaller budget”.

That’s why I’m skeptical that broad won’t work for somebody like me. In the future – once I get more sales – for sure, but now, I’m a bit scared, I must say.

    1. cost per lick click
    2. 7 – 14 days [adjust the budget accordingly]
    3. $5
    4. depends
    5. Stack interests and lookalike audiences still work

Anything below 50K is “a small budget”

    Hope it helps

If you’re testing creatives and you have a few that are not profitable – what metrics make you decide to test them a little bit more (except conversions)? Is cheap CPM gonna make a difference? or high CTR? – **I look for CTR, i check CPM generally when i’m testing new audience (lead quality too)**
How much do you spend per 1 ad creative to test it that has no sales? At what point do you say “okay, that’s enough, this isn’t going anywhere?” Let’s assume the CTR and CPM are average – and no sales. – **Totally depend on campaign, as in any given campaign you will have multiple ads of different types and FB by defaults shows. some specific ads more than other which is one of the clear signal that ad is working**
What’s the minimum you spend per ad creative to test it? – **Again, will depend on adgroup or campaign**
Bonus question – Broad targeting. How much do you need to spend for broad targeting ad set (1-3 ads) so that it start working? Very general question, I know, if you don’t have specific numbers in mind, feel free to just type a range – **You know there’s no right or wrong answer – sometimes it clicks sometimes it doesn’t. You will have test and see what works for you. My advice will be just keep different types of ads in a adgroup. I try to keep a carousel, static and video**
– **From what i observed is “Interest” works properly when people have updated their profile properly so facebook can catch on signals that’s why i’m always skeptical of targeting options of facebook and personally used Targeting expansion and it just sucks – same of google too. just bring in unqualified leads**

I hope i was able to answer a lot of your questions, let me know if you have anything else too.

Also, please feel free to correct me or share different approaches others use.
