  • Examples of ad/marketing agencies utilizing social media in a unique and/or successful way for brand building

I’ve been trying to look at some agencies to see strategies for success and it seems like most of them have social (Twitter, FB, IG mostly) but either have clearly purchased followers or have really paltry followings. Anyone have any examples of more successful ones?

My suggestion in these cases is always to just be yourself. Yes, it’s a good idea to look at what the big guys are doing, but you can’t really go wrong on social by providing value and being yourself. Show a mix of helpful content, and interesting behind the scenes stuff that is unique to you and your company. I don’t think enough people/businesses do this well

Agencies don’t tend to do much organic, and organic is where you will see the clearest success metrics (nothing hidden behind the purchased results). Look at brands that have big in-house social teams. Those are the brands that are running a mix of organic and paid, and you will be able to distinguish between the two pretty easily. If you want to really dig, watch how their agencies then mimic the winning organic strategies yet come up short. It’s beautiful how open all these results are. I’m baffled why marketing journalists don’t use them.

I’ve loved Arby’s social media marketing for years. They’ve done a lot of stop-motion stuff with geek/nerd/fandom material, as well as Bands of America and Drum Corp International. They engagement is always high on these, but I obviously don’t have the data if these transferred to sales. And I don’t know if this was in-house Arby’s marketing or an agency. Maybe this comment isn’t helpful!

We do only organic growth with the agency I own. We have follower counts for some of our clients knocking on 100K and a bunch over 50K. I’m talking IG here. We do not buy followers or likes. Both are a waste of money.
