Everything is “easier” now, but why is everyone more miserable and stressed than ever?
I’ve been reflecting on this lately—we were promised that technology, better connectivity, and endless options would make our lives easier. But it feels like the opposite is happening.
Life has become incredibly unpredictable and mentally draining, even though we have every convenience at our fingertips. Why are we more anxious today than generations that had far less?
I feel there are a few major reasons behind this:
The Paradox of Choice: Previously, choices were limited, and life was simpler. Today, we have 100 options for everything—from careers to dating to what to watch on Netflix. This abundance creates a constant fear that we might be choosing the "wrong" thing. FOMO is real.
The Comparison Trap: We are bombarded 24/7 with the "highlight reels" of everyone else’s lives on social media. It’s hard not to feel like you're falling behind when you're comparing your behind-the-scenes reality to someone else’s filtered perfection.
The Death of Patience: We live in an era of instant gratification. Food in 10 minutes, cabs in 2 minutes, information in seconds. This has destroyed our ability to be patient. When the big things in life—like career growth or meaningful relationships—take time, we feel like we’re failing.
Information Overload: Our brains weren't designed to process the amount of data we consume daily. Being constantly "plugged in" means our minds never truly hit the rest mode, leading to a persistent, underlying sense of anxiety.
We’ve bought convenience, but it seems we’ve traded away our peace of mind in the process.
What do you guys think? Is the "easy life" actually making us mentally fragile? How are you all coping with this constant sense of unpredictability?
