Social media has ruined society. Every Tom dick and harry out there thinks they are the most special person to exist and enjoys promoting their life as if what they do is so important.

look at me im cooking eggs or im doing this or that unimportant thing in life. Let me give my uneducated opinion on something and get a million upvotes and it’s usually some idiot with an opinion who does.

I talked to a lady yesterday who claimed she had five million followers and when I checked her page out she was basically just mentally ill ranting about God and a golden age.

thanks to social media every loser thinks they are a god with other losers supporting them And it shows the narcissism present in society and elevates it. Everyone is chasing their egos and trying to be or thinks they are someone huge and great.

self-promotion is a joke. I went to a book fair and one female told me her book is about her life and so are millions of other people’s books. why do people think their life story is so intriguing when many times it’s just not. oh I had kids and my husband was a veteran. what qualifies that as interesting? There are zillions of authors out there thanks to peoples levels of narcissism and self aggrandizement.

there hasn’t been a society before with so much narcissism present and so much lack of education or refinement All thanks to Facebook, tiktok or instagram.

What do you think social media was made for, if not self promoting? That’s the very reason why it was invented.

There are bigger fights in the world that require attention. Why don’t you use this energy to fight against what’s going on in the world?

honestly socmed definitely amplifies ego, but it also lowers the barrier for people who wouldn’t have had a voice before. The real issue isn’t that everyone shares, it’s that platforms reward noise over substance. Attention isn’t the same as value, and over time people still gravitate toward creators who consistently add something meaningful

It is pretty wild what goes viral. Sometimes it’s alienating when you don’t relate whatsoever to the slop that gets 20 million views. But at the same time, it is a weird modern opportunity to make money and have power over brands needing consumer-facing marketing. I don’t think all these people (myself included) should be able to make this much money off of random brands, but it’s where all their sales come from right now. So if you can get a stupid big following for doing something stupid, you might as well, because it sure beats the hell out of any job out there.

On the contrary, the ego and unrealistic views of the world and phone addiction that comes with this career path are new and unregulated and going to create a lot of bad in the world. Really interesting time to be alive man, wish I had more that I could say to make people feel better. I think if we were less of a hyper-individualistic society, social media didn’t have to be as harmful as it’s become. But that’s just theoretical.

Totally get being annoyed by people who act like gods on social media, it often feels personal rn
Most of the time it’s performative insecurity, so calling it out calmly or just muting them saves time and stress

Careful, you’re not wrong about a swath of people and profiles and situations and platforms.

BUT! There is a lot of internet out there and you can consume the good and ignore the stupid and perishable to a reasonable extent.

Reclaim agency over your life and exposure to the extent you can. Leave platforms you want or feel you should.

We can choose to show up in the world in our way (at least to a significant extent if not totally) and that usually brings good and reflective connection with good folks and good content for you.

Hey so I am literally sick of this shit too enough to have gone and made my own new kind of social media.

You can sign up at https://projectarchive.app

It’s in beta right now, and it’s made for what I think social media should ACTUALLY be used for – connecting with friends and family, preserving memories, and preserving relationships from afar.

Basically it’s a social media app where you can build your own mini personal social media, but you get to decide who joins. No influencers, rage bait, or endless ads.

Aw I think random regular people are interesting. Granted, I don’t have any social media so I’m overexposed ig. I like hearing about the mundane aspects of a stranger’s life. I’m nosy.
