Early career choice : big 4 agency/ smaller established agency/ in-house startup role. What would you choose? State your reasoning or experience.
If you have multiple digital performance media job offers :
Publicis media / smaller established agency/ in-house B2C service startup role, what would be your choice?I kind of would be in this position soon, so want to know. I'm more tech-savvy and shifting from IT to digital marketing. Would like to know your thoughts or experience.
My thought process is:
Big agency : slow learning for single big client, hands-on on max 3 ad platforms plus something like CM360 for first 2 years. Good internationally known brands to have on resume (client plus big 4 agency). Extremely large budget for ad spend. Probably slow pay growth even after job change after 3 years.
Small established agency : faster learning compared to big agency & exposure to multiple clients and sectors, chance to learn more platforms and channels. Probably will look to pay less in beginning and have to change jobs frequently in 1-2 years for pay rise. Clients are mostly in domestic market.
In-house established but growing startup : faster and hence challenging learning curve, may not get exposure to certain advertising platforms if they are not part of media-mix, also possible to get exposure to other tools like marketing automation & MMP if they are part of media-mix , can get into depth of business unlike in small agency, faster chance of monetary growth, no exposure to any other industry sector, can't ever move into big agency later. Good domestic brand to have on resume.
