Hey folks, what is your strategy with regards to keyword research when you onboard an e-commerce client who has around 2000+ products on their site.
Do you perform keyword research for all the product pages or do you just research keywords for the categories and some key products on the site?

Are the product pages templatized or are they all somewhat unique? It’ll come down to how many hours they’re playing you for imo. If you’re not going to be able to optimize landing pages and pdps, then don’t bother auditing the pdps. If you can do both, audit the pdp structure (since it’ll likely be the same across all, then turn your focus to content.

I do SEO for a huge ecommerce site and I mainly optimize for category level pages. That’s just what makes the most sense for the company I work for, although it may be different in your case.

The product pages are all optimized too but that’s not where the majority of traffic comes in from organic search. They are optimized based on user experience and providing adequate information to customers. If there are specific items that make sense to really hone in on I would do that too.

I would definitely recommend using Google shopping’s free option too but that takes some time to set up and optimize for each item individually.
