Does Page Speed really affect SEO?

GuestMay 11, 2021 at 7:27 amYou should listen to the new search off the record podcast with Google, John, Gary and Martin from Google discuss this very thing and how they would use speed as a ranking factor if they were starting a new search engine. (but really they are talking about google)
Essentially they say its more like a tie breaker than anything else, it doesn’t make sense to rank fast websites above slow ones if the slow one has more relevant content to the search query. If the content is equally as good then speed can come into play.

GuestMay 11, 2021 at 8:45 amIt affects but not to a level many people project them online. If your website is painfully slow, most people will shy away that includes mobile.
Also check how slow you are in comparison to the serp you are targeting.

GuestMay 11, 2021 at 9:31 amPage Speed is only one of the 200+(not sure where is this 200 list) criterias set by google. And as per my understanding its DA which is the highest value. If DA (Domain Authority ) IN A NICHE is high then there are high chance of ranking better. other factors remaining equal.

GuestMay 11, 2021 at 10:59 amEven if it was not important for UX, Google still has an huge incentive to rank faster websites higher.
Google is currently spidering billions of website per day, something that requires a huge amount of servers. If the whole web got 100% faster, that would mean that Google could either spider more website or use less servers.

GuestMay 11, 2021 at 11:24 amYes page speed actually matters. Speed can make or break your site in Google’s results page. In addition, your readers will not likely visit your website again. It should not take more than 3 seconds for your webpage to load. Otherwise, users leave your site and move on to the next. Most consumers consider page speed as one factor for buying from an e-commerce site. You could lose a lot of revenue if you do not improve in this area. Boost your speed and gauge how responsive your website is to get more sales.

GuestMay 11, 2021 at 12:12 pmThere are multiple factors that decide the ranking of websites. It can possible that the website is having poor website speed but is **good with 8 out of 10 ranking factors** and that can be the reason why it is ranking higher.
In the other case, it is possible that the website may have good website speed but it is **only good in 4 out of 10 factors.** -

GuestMay 11, 2021 at 12:50 pmIt does, but only if your site is super slow. SEO is still 90% about how well the content on the page answers the user’s query.

GuestMay 11, 2021 at 1:38 pmYes of course Page Speed matters. It not only affects the SEO but also degrades the user experience. As users find it less interesting and it seems to be time-consuming. And Google will also prefer less because of slow loading speed and it will affect the ranking.

GuestMay 11, 2021 at 1:52 pmThere’s a lot of people replying who know way more about SEO than I do. So take their word for it on SEO. FWIW, google page speed insights is what you should be looking at, because the search engine you’re optimizing for is… google.
We’ve been working hard to get our FB ads quality ranking up. Mixing in video ads with our current image ads, more quizzes instead of a squeeze page to increase page dwell time, etc. It all matters, but so does page speed. However, for FB, I can tell you page speed alone won’t improve your quality rankings… having said that, it does matter.
Even if your FB ad quality ranking doesn’t directly get impacted by it and even if page speed alone won’t improve your SEO rankings… it DOES matter.
Why? People don’t sit around waiting for pages to load. In this day and age, we all have ADHD and a page loading slowly means less conversions.
So whatever conclusion you gather from this, you should realize that even if SEO ranking isn’t impacted by page speed as much as you’d think, it still matters a whole hell of a lot.

GuestMay 11, 2021 at 4:02 pmI see to much focus on unilateral improvements to seo metrics (like page speed) rather than focusing on an overall strategy. Ask how your site facilitates the action you’d like your users to take. If reducing page load speed fits into that objective then work on it. Is it content and design? Site health? Etc…

GuestMay 11, 2021 at 4:32 pmThe simple answer is that page speed does affect SEO. Page speed is a direct ranking factor, a fact known even better since Google’s Algorithm Speed Update. However, speed can also affect rankings indirectly, by increasing the bounce rate and reducing dwell time.
