  • Does my lifestyle have potential for content creation?

I’m thinking about starting a lifestyle Instagram and wanted to get some honest feedback before putting real effort into it.

A little about me: I’m in my early 30s and a single mom of a teenager, and for most of her life it’s really just been the two of us.

When she was a toddler, I went to a top university while raising her on my own, so a lot of my life has been focused on parenting, school, and work. Now that she’s older, I feel like I’m entering a new phase where I’m trying to build a life outside of just being a mom. I also try to take good care of myself and stay active, so part of this stage of life is figuring out how to put myself out there more socially and personally.

I currently work a stable but somewhat boring job, though it happens to be in a really interesting and touristy part of a major U.S. city known for food and culture. Because of that, I’m surrounded by interesting places — restaurants, museums, cultural spots — even though my daily routine is pretty ordinary.

I also live in a somewhat upscale suburb nearby that’s known for being charming and interesting in its own way. I honestly lucked out finding an apartment there that I can afford.

To be completely honest, I don’t really have friends right now, and my Instagram currently has about 20 followers (mostly family and coworkers).

I’m also at a stage where I’m open to dating and figuring out relationships, while still being a pretty introverted person.

Another part of our little unit is our very cute corgi, and the three of us tend to go everywhere together.

The idea for the account would be documenting things like:

    • going to events alone

    • exploring restaurants and interesting places

    • museums, films, and cultural spots

    • navigating adulthood and trying to make friends

    • reflections on food, culture, and everyday life

    • sometimes going out with my daughter or our corgi

    • figuring out dating and relationships in my 30s

The vibe I’m imagining is thoughtful, reflective lifestyle storytelling rather than typical influencer content.

    I’m curious what people think:

    • Does this concept sound interesting or relatable?

    • Is there an angle that might make it stronger?

    • Have you seen accounts with a similar theme that work well?

If you’ve seen accounts that document this kind of “starting over / rebuilding life” phase, I’d especially love to hear about them.

I’d really appreciate any honest feedback.

Yes definitely. The main thing is that it won’t happen immediately, your best bet is to get comfortable filming and posting asap as well as following lots of other people in that same niche and liking and commenting on their stuff. The quality of your content will improve overtime, I really believe the key is to just start posting and going for it.

What’s the actual purpose of all this?

Sounds like you have a good job, live in a good area. Go live a good life.

You gotta do the market research. Are there any other content creators to do this? What do you do differently? And is there an actual audience for both them and yourself? Ultimately if you enjoy doing it, just do it.

Best way to start is to find five content creators in the niche(s) that most align with your lifestyle content direction.

Study their video content, descriptions, hashtags, comments, likes, hooks, edits, video length, music, etc. See which platforms they are most active on, the types of brands they often partner with, and how they make themselves unique.

If you’re bold enough, you could even try reaching out to ask them for some advice. Just don’t reach out to people with 100k+ followers and expect a reply. Better to aim for creators in the 1-20k range.

Everyone wants to be unique, but the reality is most everything has already been done before, but not in your voice through your experiences. That’s how you make it unique. So don’t feel ill about studying and copying others that are doing what you want to do.

Are you actually describing Lorelei Gilmore?

Are you and your daughter the Gilmore Girls?

Do you eat a lot of pancakes?
Do you both talk really fast?
Do you both watch old movies in your pajamas?
Do you run a quaint local Inn?
Does your daughters best friend play drums and with part time in her mothers antique shop?

If you can answer yes to 90% of those questions then you may have a future in social media.

Everything is content! As long as you have the passion and drive to put in the work to create content you enjoy consistently through all the initial challenges of getting your social media to grow then I say go for it

Do it if your intention is to help others.

Think about how often you can post valuable content. Don’t put too much pressure so you can be consistent.

Always be yourself. Choose the right perspective according to your audience i.e. if its teenage moms imagine you are talking to one.

Don’t beat yourself up about views and likes. Ignore negative comments. Just have fun!

Absolutely yes. There is a huge audience for ‘quiet lifestyle’ content right now. People are tired of over-edited influencers; they want to see someone navigating real life, like visiting a museum alone or exploring a city with a corgi.

Since you’re an introvert in a touristy city, your strength is your **unique perspective**. My advice: focus on the **aesthetic and storytelling**.

I work with digital branding, and I’ve seen that ‘Minimalist & Reflective’ visuals (clean fonts, neutral tones) work wonders for this kind of content. It makes your daily ordinary routine look like a high-end cinematic experience.

Don’t worry about the 20 followers. If you stay consistent with that thoughtful vibe and use high-quality layouts, people in their 30s who feel the same way will find you. You’re not just ‘starting over,’ you’re ‘curating’ a new life, and that’s a very powerful story to tell.
