  • Does It make sense to start an Instagram Profile as private for a bigger project?

I have a small project of my own. I am starting to have content to post that SHOULD increase in the next months. But i think what could make my page interesting is seeing an improvement in time, which now simply doesn’t exist.
Does It make sense to start my account as private (kind of as a diary for myself and close friends) and post what i want until I decide it’s enough quality content to go public?
Is it an already used practice?

In my mind It’s like starting to build an online portfolio but actually send it around only when it’s professional/complete enough.
    Thanks 🙂

This debate is as old as social media itself. I’ll say this… making a private social account successful takes a lot more work than a public one (and those are really hard already).

Keep it public! Even if your content is shit right now, start gathering the followers _now._ If you notice your posts are getting a lot of shares/bookmarks, turn it to a private account for more followers.

The most engaged accounts are usually other people promoting, and in my experience I don’t believe 99.8% read even 20% of my content. I think how easily digestible and how visually compelling the content is will make you more or less likely to be successful rather than even the overall content.

If you have a solid base of friends and family who will engage through clicking your see more, commenting, liking, and sharing, then you might as well make your page public. Because that’s so necessary for the algorithms.

If you want a small circle to see stuff, just email or text it to them.

If you want to push a project into the public eye that you will want to get views on, then put on social media
