Does Facebook secretly boost your first ad?

I recently launched a room decor business and have run a bunch of ads on Instagram. My very first one I only spent $10 on and got about 30,000 impressions, thousands of likes, and a purchase. However, ever ad after that has been a flop—I even re-ran that exact same successful ad and got very little engagement. I’m wondering if maybe Facebook boosts your first ad so that you continue to buy more in hopes of getting the same results?

GuestApril 16, 2020 at 7:19 pmI´ve been in the same situation. I recently published an add to promote a website and the results of cost per click wet down to like $0.003 It’s worth to tell that it was on a development country.
I would be trying one more time the exact same segmentation to see how the results compares.

GuestApril 16, 2020 at 7:47 pmI have no idea, but come to think of it, I wouldn’t be surprised. ESP. Since you ran the same ad a second time with no results. Twice is not enough times for audience fatigue.

GuestApril 16, 2020 at 9:08 pmI have no proof of the inner workings of this but I think there is some kind of method they use at times where they dont have a base starting point on who to show the ad to so It shows it to a large audience for a very brief moment. I’ve seen instances where I’ve run a very low cost ad that gets 2000 impressions and maybe 250 of those will click thru to the website. But when I look at the data the second the ad went to approved I had 60 visitors on the site simultaneously in the same minute right after the ad starts running.

GuestApril 16, 2020 at 9:14 pmThat’s very hard to say. I could see the reasoning behind it, but advertisment inventory even for a huge site as Facebook is limited. Letting you get that space for cheap hurts numbers for your competitors who might be loyal customers for Facebook Ads.

GuestApril 16, 2020 at 11:45 pmJust a heads up, the entire ad business has bottomed out, so any ads placed after 3/12 isn’t going to perform as well as it might’ve previously.

Next thing you know, your sitting in front of a machine, wearing an adult diaper full of shit at 4 in the morning because you’re expecting the next big pay out to come. Only it never does…

GuestApril 17, 2020 at 11:26 amNo. Mostly likely its being seen by the same audience (hence, lower engagement). Usually new ads will always get a small spike since its new and level off after a while.
If its boosted, just check the CPI and see if there’s a large difference. If not, other metric is the issue.
