    To an extent.

I’ve worked on contracts where you have a set monthly retainer and then “bonuses” set for reaching certain milestones or agreements to up the retainer at a certain revenue goal.

It’s not very commercially viable for SEOs to agree for a contract based on growth as on an organic campaign growth will be extremely slow for the first few months unless you have major technical problems with your site.

Locksmith SEO is a minefield. No one with any experience in this area of search would even consider this.

I’ve heard of people taking a % on things like setting up AdWords campaigns, since it is relatively more straightforward in being able to track leads down. But SEO is a bit foggier and I couldn’t imagine a contract where both agency and business owner would feel comfortable signing. SEO has a lot of up front labor that could take months to really understand the impact it made, and even large companies (especially when Sales has a stake in things) have trouble actually understanding how to attribute specific dollar amounts to SEO.

Seems a little like being paid based the success of a sports team when you’re hired to stand in the bleachers cheering. I’ve not seen a single case of ‘guaranteed results’ – particularly since quite often – even Google is working against you.

I’ve always believed that anyone who ‘guarantees’ traffic increases based on search optimization is either faking results, or buying them.

Would you agree to only charge a customer if you opened their lock within the first two attempts? No because other external factors may affect your ability to keep that performance promise.

No. Not for improvements in search rankings at least. Not a chance.

You’re paying for the service. Not the results.

The onus is on you to choose your SEO carefully.

You might find someone to do it based on lead gen performance though.
