  • Do exact keyphrase matches matter anymore?

Hi. I have started a new website, and as you can guess I’m going for long-tail keywords. But I was wondering, do I have to use 0.5-2.5% exact matches of that keyword in my post? Because if I do, my post will end up looking ugly. If I don’t, I’m free to use loose matches for that keyword throughout my post and have a better-looking article.

    Thank you for your time.

It does, but it also depends. Google tends to ignore stopwords, so if your phrase is:

“SERVICE CITYNAME” but your article is “SERVICE in CITYNAME” while technically not exact match, Google will ignore the word “in”

That being said, in highly competitive phrases, exact match is a must. Google tends to rank in order of:

    Exact match

    Like Match

    Similar (IE synonyms)

Notice I said “tends to”. That means it isn’t always this way. But in my experience, when looking at highly competitive phrases, this is how it works.

There’s no magic percentage. Use your targeted and related keywords and write naturally.
