  • Competitor using my business name in page URL?

Posted by seohelper on April 17, 2021 at 4:04 pm

My competition is using my business name on a page URL to rank for when someone looks up my business.

I don’t have any trademarks or anything besides owning the domain that they are coping to rank.

    What can I do?

    Thanks

    Become sharper than your competitor.

Your website will be a priority if someone is searching the name of your business. If its not, then your website’s authority still needs to be build-up. What they did is completely legal and honestly, if they do “take away from your traffic” just by having your name in the URL of a page then your site isnt worth outranking it anyway (at its current standing)

Trademark your business name. Then you can do something about it.

I’m not an attorney, but I don’t think you have any options otherwise. Even with a trademark, I’m not sure if there is anything you can do unless they are trying to impersonate your business. Just using your name in the URL probably doesn’t violate anything even if it is a trademarked name. Otherwise, nobody would be able to use things like “apple-iphone” in their URLs.

Have a lawyer send them a cease and desist. It doesn’t hold any weight, but might scare them into removing it.

    But get yourself a trademark.
