In my experience, forums like reddit or quora pushes can boost serps quick if they get traction. but to tell paid from organic, look at ad blockers or traffic quality scores if available.

I’ve noticed this too in the last few days alone, even non-local website companies outranking brick and mortar businesses. Has no consistency, I imagine people researching must be absolutely confused when they find a web agency isn’t where they state they are.

They’re definitely up to something you’re probably not aware of. Apart from their traffic sources, check their social activities, backlink velocity from the last 3 months and most importantly their on-page/content.
These should give you a clue.

Big jumps usually come from focused SEO work, paid campaigns or strong PR. Tools like Ahrefs or Similar web can give you a quick traffic breakdown. Check Keyword growth backlinks, and visible ads to spot what’s working well for them
