Can You Use Conversion Tracking without the Conversion Tag?

Posted by seohelper on August 11, 2021 at 9:04 pm

When I setup some conversions in Google Ads, I run them through Tag Manager. As you probably are familiar, I choose the option for setup with tag manager. I follow the process, confirm that it works, but when I use the chrome extension to check the tag, I don’t see that it’s there. Am I doing something wrong?

To answer your title question, yes. You can setup goals in Analytics and import to Google Ads. This maybe the easiest way of doing so, especially if you have little coding experience.

    As for your post information..

What extensions are you using to check these? Are you looking for events that are firing on the website to track as a conversion? Or are you using certain key pages or thank you/confirmation pages?

Besides jmalone’s answer – you can also set them up through offline conversion import ([https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/2998031?hl=en-GB](https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/2998031?hl=en-GB)) if you store gclid somewhere – which I’d recommend cause javascript ad pixels are getting wonkier and wonkier.

The answer on why you’re not seeing them is because the chrome Tag Assistant doesn’t show Google Ads tags contained in GTM using the chrome extension anymore. Use preview mode on [https://tagassistant.google.com/](https://tagassistant.google.com/) instead to check what’s happening – article about it here [https://support.google.com/tagassistant/answer/10042782](https://support.google.com/tagassistant/answer/10042782).
