I was looking at /bigseo and saw the mods don't have any significant case studies of success – and it got me thinking… are there any SEO communities on Reddit with real SEOs who have demonstrably produced returns / revenue / money using SEO? Or are most of the communities mainly geared to early SEO analysts / enthusiasts / hobbyists?

If you owned a successful business due to an SEO’s work, would you be happy for an SEO to write a huge case study about how he/she grew your business organically and post it to a forum with hundreds of thousands of visitors? Sure, some are happy to post stuff they’ve done for their own businesses or side projects but stuff can be dissected/copied etc by competitors. Worth a thought. Some clients may not mind but I know I wouldn’t disrespect any of mine by doing that.

Grumpseoguy. If you listen to his podcast you will know more about SEO than 99% of people on the planet.

At the very least, the difficulty of doing SEO and the amount of compensation vary across different industries. It’s hard to draw useful comparisons across different sectors.

This and the other subs are riddled with self promotion and “theorists” that are actually just doomers and karma whores. You’ll catch a diamond here and there but a vast majority of what you’ll see is nonsense.

It makes it worse when you have people who refuse to view SEO as a whole with all its avenues (IE the content vs backlink only crowds).

So honestly even if there were something like what you’re talking about posted by a genuinely sincere source, the subs would drag it down in the comments. Because it all comes down to “this is the internet” (cynical, but truthful). No good deed goes unpunished here.

    >I was looking at /bigseo and saw the mods don’t have any significant case studies of success

Most of the best SEOs in the world do not have any public case studies. Think about it this way:

    * Who is most motivated to create case studies? Agencies that want to grow, not-yet popular freelancers, and influencers/creators.
    * Who is least motivated to create case studies? In-house SEOs and freelancers who have enough clients an inbound inquiries.

When I was leading inhouse SEO for a large ecommerce website, I only talked about what we do when we were actively recruiting. And even then I would never give away any of the advanced stuff that worked well for us.

    >are most of the communities mainly geared to early SEO analysts / enthusiasts / hobbyists?

    My take:

    * r/bigseo attracts more Enterprise/in-house SEO types.
    * r/SEO has a higher share of people running niche site, freelancers and, people running tiny agencies.
    * r/TechSEO probably has the highest average quality. But is limited in terms of topics.

You can find complete bs in all of these subs. And you can find really interesting nuggets of information in all 3.

Of course there are other SEO-related subreddits. But none of them are really worth it in my opinion.

    Whats wrong with this one?

Website Squadron has had incredible results implementing u/WebLinkr’s advice. We used to rank 70th for “backlink exchange”, and now I touch touch 30th.

u/BusyBusinessPromos knows everything about copy with impact.

You literally only have to follow this subreddit for all SEO topics.

It’s not really the mods job to do that

I literally joined Reddit again after 15+ years because of r/SEO_for_AI by Ann Smarty.

Ann is a household name in the SEO industry for almost 20 years!

Likewise the contributions there are super high class. Sadly it mainly deals with AI SEO.

It’s still a tiny niche despite all the hype. Plus it will never yield much traffic probably.
