    Yep, page experience is a key signal to Google for ranking.

    Images break up text, add context to the article and can therefore increase dwell time on the page. Make sure to optimise the alt text too, Google bots “see” these images but they can read your descriptions of it.

    I’ve had solid success for including top level infographics on a blog and that infographic rank well in image search.

    yoast yelling red is just yoast being yoast. images are not a ranking switch, they are a usefulness switch, and google cares more about intent match and time on page. if the article answers the query cleanly, a stock image adds nothing, but one simple chart or screenshot can bump scroll depth by 10 to 20 percent which helps indirectly. i usually add one lightweight visual only when it explains something faster than text, and ignore the red dot the rest of the time.

    My rule is to add an illustration only if it brings value. If you are gonna add and stock photo, don’t even bother. I do spend time creating unique images that bring value to the reader especially on my important pages.
