Anyone else notice a huge increase in the amount of ads you’re being shown on FB? Also a lot of them are completely irrelevant to me.
I’m a long time social media marketer and I am probably of the few people who enjoy ads and let FB have as much information about as I could possibly give them. I often click on ads and fill out the web forms to test out funnels, see how their marketing changes, etc. So FB has a lot of information on the stuff I click on and what I’m interested in.
Following the new iOS 14.5 update, I’m getting bombarded with a LOT more ads than I am used to seeing. I’m talking about like constant ads. Maybe one every 4 posts. I used to never get in-stream video ads (probably because FB knows I often click and respond to feed ads so they stopped delivering those to me) but now I see 2-3 in each video I watch.
What’s even worse is that a lot of these ads have become absolutely irrelevant. I used to be served ads for marketing agency scams (ha!), business related stuff, weird clothing, and stuff that generally would have interested me. But now? I have been straight asking myself “Why the absolute eff am I seeing these irrelevant ads!?!??”
Have we, as marketers, changed our ads in a way that has absolutely removed any targeting? Is FB increasing the number of ads shown to try and overcome the iOS changes? What do you think is different that could be causing these changes?
