  • Any merits to acquiring similar domain with hyphen?

Say for example you owned the domain made up of two keywords like ‘luxurycar’ (as a made up example), are there any merits to getting the hyphened version too if its cheap? (i.e. luxury-car)

If so, what would you do with it – have it as a separate site or redirect etc?

A separate site would mean 2 sites about the same thing. Concentrate your time and energy into one of them and redirect the other.

Unless it’s a brand name I wouldn’t even bother getting the hyphenated version.

Not really. There would be more of a merit and getting a common misspelling and redirecting it to your main domain. Even that’s really only something advisable to a very well-known brand such that someone might just willy-nilly guess at the web domain name.

I usually turn these into separate landing pages that point to the main site, when appropriate.

It’s worth it if you don’t want anyone else to take over your idea.

I have for example [speedbacklinks.com](https://speedbacklinks.com) but I also redirect from .net which is a secondary domain with a known TLD.

As I said -> If you got tons of traffic, it’s worth it. Otherwise, someone else might end up stealing your visitors.

Only keeping someone else from using it.
