Affiliate Landing Pages and Google Ads

Posted by seohelper on March 9, 2021 at 4:28 pm

Hi – a client of ours wants us to advertise on Google ads and direct traffic to a landing page that looks like the brand we are promoting but its actually on the affiliate’s domain and then clicks through to the brands actual URL. I don’t think Google will like this journey at all, what do you guys think?

I have run traffic to an affiliate site before but that was a review site so no issues with that journey but this new journey just doesn’t sound good

Legally it depends on the country you are advertising. In some countries it’s illegal, since it’s market manipulation.

**From the point of Google:** I don’t think it’s going to be an issue as long as the website looks a bit different and isn’t connected to the same Manager account. I have seen in certain countries where my clients competitors are running multiple different domains on their own brands to keep brand bidders away. One had 6 websites with similar but different names, while others are usually running with 2 websites.

The biggest concern you should have is that they look to similar. Google doesn’t want duplicate content. Had a Client which got one of their accounts disabled because Google thought it looked to close to each other. One was targeting Germany, while the other was targeting Austria. Two different domains, but same setup and language.
