I am a fairly new tattoo artist still yet in search of a permanent studio space. Meanwhile I’ve made an IG acc 2 weeks ago with almost 150 followers already. I try to post every tattoo I have done, flashes, engage with people on stories, do time limited offers etc. I just created a pinterest acc and uploaded everything I could link to my IG to there. I also upload relevant content to sub reddits for exposure. I’m thinking of next creating a facebook page. I ask all client to share their tattoos, friends to support me by sharing and spreading the word and it’s been going fairly well. My main issue right now is that I’ve gained more international followers, esp other tattoo artists and not necessarily local paying clients. What would you guys do differently or additionally? Any tips?

I’d say create a page and run FB ads to your city. Facebook page doesn’t give you organic reach anymore no matter how many likes you have. You have to run ads if you’re a business owner. If you have a community on Facebook, reach isn’t an issue

Create a Tiktok account. Any follower is a good follower, more relevant clients will find you as you grow.

Bro.. I got you. If you have a monthly budget to grow I can help you target your area, as well as grow your social proof overall. I have a few clients right now, one is on the Discover+ TV show “Undercover Billionaire”, as well as 2 professional boxers. I think working with a tattoo artist like yourself would be awesome for the roster. DM on Instagram (@joshuamicah) 37k.

this is true for me as well. I’m a designer and I post my designs but most of my followers are designers themselves. it’s difficult since we’re looking for clients not peers. but some designers found a way. I think you could have some idea too. Instead of posting their designs, what they’re doing is posting content. like for example “what is a good brand” this time those who followed them are potential clients. I wanted to do this but don’t have time.

By the sounds of it you’re off to a great start. If you’re trying to target people locally the number one thing to work on on IG is your hashtags, who you’re engaging with and if you have the cash spend on advertisements to target as well. I would make a facebook page and Pinterest as that allows more people to find you but make sure you have a strategy for each and that its working so you don’t overwhelm yourself or waste time where you’re not getting clients.

Video. Lots of video. Think ASMR video.

Look into local FB Groups or local Reddit communities even.

You’ve gotta think local – Yelp, FB Reviews, Google Reviews – reviews are incredibly important for local biz. I’d focus on reviews before a FB or Pinterest even.

The social presence is great – I’d keep up with Instagram and do TikTok – maybe Twitch – but reviews will be so important for a small biz. The social will just help validate you – may not bring you local followers – but when someone checks you out to see if you’re legit they’ll see your profile.

Oh! And get your face on IG, do intros on IG Stories or Reels – that will be great for someone thinking about reaching out, for them to get to know you. I’d do on camera talking at least 1x week on stories & keep highlight going.
