  • 6 Months of Hard SEO Work, Zero Growth. I’m Feeling Defeated

    I’ve been working extremely hard on SEO for my ecommerce business (furniture). This wasn’t some half-baked effort. I followed every best practice. Here's what I did so far.

    • I optimized more than 100+ key commercial pages (title/meta, H1s, high-quality content, keyword research)
    • Regular blogging (long-form, high-quality, not AI spam)
    • Internal linking strategy is strong with some pages with 30+ contextual links
    • No crawl or index issues. Our technical health score of 98
    • 10 new links, all high-quality, relevant, contextual.
    • UX improvements, added filtering, semantic topical clusters.

    Results?

    • 6 months in and clicks are flat.
    • The two recent Google core updates (Sept + Dec) hit us hard and we lost traffic instead of gaining.
    • DR is mainly consistent at 33.

    At this point, I’ve done everything right on paper, but we’re still seeing zero actual gains. No sales from SEO, no big lift in organic traffic, just a slow bleed in a competitive niche.

    I’m starting to feel like the game is rigged for big brands or that we’re just not being “let in.”

    Is 6 months just too short to expect real change now? Or are there factors I’m still missing?

    This niche is like 200 times more competitive than anything you’ve done here.

    What are the DR’s of your competitors? 33 is just starting. Some of these furniture businesses have a 20 year head start.

    At this point I would recommend to focus on PR, as that will drive traffic from AI. Try to get cited in many niche and reputable places related to your niche. Especially for e-commerce PR is the best working option that drives conversions.

    You also should work on your Google Shopping presence if you haven’t done that already.

    And really, 10 links in a market like that is peanuts. Do research how many links your competitors have and what the worth of those links is. You should have at least the same amount of quality links.

    Hey u/Design_Inspire_1354 – here to help and want to give some practical help and I guarantee you can fix this with Topical Authority!

    Optimizing is a scale that is results driven. People think its checklist driven, i.e. if I do x,y,z then its optimized. Its only optimized if it actually ranks. Until then, you’re just doing things that did nothing. Saying you’ve optimized these titles but nothing happes: the occams razor outcome here suggests that you didnt

    First things in SEO: Dump the myths/levers/checklists that do nothing

    * Long form is a myth – why not try more short pages???
    * Google doesnt “love content” – it serves content “people” like
    * Do you really think in 2026, people want to read more for no reason?
    * Internal linking with 30+ links>?
    * Each link dilutes all of the other links per page
    * Pages with no traffic -> do not pass authority
    * Technical Score: 98
    * These are all made up – this isn’t SEO
    * Great that your main pages dont 404 but not breaking isn’t “optimizing”
    * AI content is perfectly allowed
    * Semantic clusters aren’t really relevant
    * 10 New links?
    * Are these on pages with traffic
    * Relevance is over-rated

    # Don’t shoot the messenger

    I have sites that went from 2k to 20k between September and December 31 – and I would say that your 6 SEO bullet points aren’t SEO – they are what other people have told you is SEO. You could even add in increased PageSpeed – and I’ll tell you this still isn’t SEO

    >I’m starting to feel like the game is rigged for big brands or that we’re just not being “let in.”

    I build brands from scratch – no backlinks, no content – its not rigged, you can totally take down brands.

    But – you have to understand

    1. How backlinks really work

    2. How to target low KD keywords

    3. Know what targeting means – because the only on-page SEO I do = the document name

    And 80% of people will tell me that on-page SEO = a list of 30 things – they are publishing on domains with existing topical authority – they could undo all 30 things and nothing would change.

    Checklist SEO is destroying SEO.

    Furniture e-commerce is ultra competitive, furniture companies have huge Ads budget + they buy really expensive links that cost over 2k usd per link.

    It is not easy to beat them without huge backlink budget.
    Blogging barely moves the needle on the correct spot because people search with purchasing intent.

    Plus top of serp is taken by ad spots.
