130,000+ Followers – Almost no money. How can I make this profitable?
Posted by seohelper on April 14, 2020 at 8:23 pmMy YouTube channel has 135,000+ subscribers. I make a very small amount from monetized videos, and a slightly larger (but still fairly small) income from Patreon. I am SURE there are people with smaller followings than me, making much, much more than me. In this new global climate, the only income I can currently rely on is my online income.
Can anyone recommend a thorough guide to making more money? Maybe it’s a mindset that’s holding me back. Like I don’t think I’m expert enough or qualified enough to sell a product, that I’ll be exposed as a fraud, that it’s inauthentic.
Happy for any recommendations or advice!

GuestApril 14, 2020 at 8:27 pmThis is actually fascinating to hear. As an outsider who doesn’t have a huge following and who looks to those with a bigger following and thinks they must have it “all”. When in reality they don’t that much more and could be struggling too.

GuestApril 14, 2020 at 8:40 pmDepends on the topic, your audience, etc.
I’m a direct response copywriter, so I can make money from ANY list given enough time to test it. Even a list that only exist as a bunch of social media subscribers.
But simply having a following isn’t enough if you can ONLY contact them through that platform. Think of it like “plumbing” and “water flow”. Your goal is to take the “water” (your followers) and funnel them towards buying decisions.
The more buying decisions you put them in front of, and the more appealing those buying decisions are to make the more you earn and the faster you grow.
So how you organize your “pipes”/funnels toward buying decisions has a big impact on your earnings. But it also has a big impact on your overall “water level”/list size. If you have too many buying decisions for them that are not appealing, you have a bunch of leaks where your water level decreases rapidly.
Too few and you have too little money coming in (though your list stays roughly the same size).
Your account is your business… What are you doing for money?
It sounds like you are counting on the “advertising” model in terms of having great content that you throw ads around. Basically you are a billboard by an amusement park, and you are giving away tickets to your amusement park so that people will see your billboard because that’s your only revenue stream.
And it sounds like OCCASSIONALLY you have some other business pay you to put up a booth in your park that they are DEFINITELY charging people for. But you are just charging them rent? Or are you taking a percentage of every sale?
ANYhoo… to give you better advice than that, I’d have to know a lot more about your channel, etc. You can technically do anything, but what you SHOULD do depends largely on your content and your audience.

This is FOMO. Like on one hand its a good guess, but on the other you are may bias to think this way. I’d recommend to change this train of thought and focus on the content.
>Maybe it’s a mindset that’s holding me back. Like I don’t think I’m expert enough or qualified enough to sell a product, that I’ll be exposed as a fraud, that it’s inauthentic.
Impostor syndrome is good. I wouldn’t follow the money or look for it in the way you are.
Follow your audience and/or let your audience follow you. Most often with advertisements the money finds you. Anything else where you need to find the money isn’t always the best deal for you.
The easiest and safest advice is to keep producing your content. Your audience will grow and someone will contact you to advertise on your stuff.

GuestApril 14, 2020 at 9:10 pmThere are dozens of ways you can monetize your audience from simple Merch to Affiliate selling. The key is to string several of these things together in a coherent and structured way. Some call this funnel hacking and might include cross-selling, upselling, bump selling, across different properties with other influencers and tubers. Your google ad revenue will be only one (and probably smallest) part.

GuestApril 14, 2020 at 9:38 pmWhat type of content are you sharing on YouTube?
Which videos get the most views and engagement?I’m asking those things first because the “formula” is simple: the right offer, in front of the right people, at the right time.
However, you need to know what they are looking for from you first to start on that path and with 100k+ subscribers, you should have some nice data.
Also, have you been building a list as well or not yet?

GuestApril 14, 2020 at 9:53 pmBased off your profile, it’s music related.
You can use your social media as a portfolio to get a paid job. Independently offer classes, custom songs, ect.
A pre-recorded class might be great way to make cash without extra effort per customer. If you want more cash, offer personal classes/consultation.

GuestApril 14, 2020 at 10:06 pmI have been monetizing my Instagram feed since I had 13,000 followers. I currently have over 700k and make six figures from sponsored posts. I have taught a number of huge influences in both how to grow and how to monetize. While YouTube is not exactly Instagram it’s the same in terms of finding brands, getting their attention and pitching to them before negotiating. Send me a DM if you are interested. I dont take on all potential clients. I would have a few questions before I would consider it.

GuestApril 14, 2020 at 11:32 pmI have checked a couple of your videos and didn’t come across any ad. Are you sure your adsense account is set up correctly? You have some 10+ min which could have 3 ads in them. Your videos with 1M+ views also don’t show any ads for me. You might want to look into that

GuestApril 14, 2020 at 11:59 pmJust typing this and making people aware of what you have is the first step. People will then fill in the gaps for you.
You could definitely start selling ad space to artists. Like you would be “analyzing” a composer of modern music.
Im interested to do this and if you’d like to talk more, please hit me up on a PM!

GuestApril 15, 2020 at 5:55 pmQuick search and I came across Inside the Score, I believe is your channel (apologies if I’m wrong). Immediately I see no merchandise for example, that is another revenue of income, live scream and charge your audience etc… The channel is niche for sure
