For keyword rankings, use a proper rank tracker rather than checking manually. Manual searches get personalized by location, device, history, and language, so the numbers will be messy. Something like SE Ranking, Semrush, Ahrefs, AccuRanker, Wincher, or even a cheaper local rank tracker can work.

For reporting, keep it simple at first. Weekly reports should be short: what changed, what you worked on, any issues, and next steps. Monthly reports can show bigger trends like organic traffic, Search Console clicks/impressions, rankings, conversions if tracked, and completed tasks.

Also make sure you take a baseline before doing much work. Export current rankings, Google Search Console performance, GA4 organic traffic, top pages, and any conversions. Clients usually care less about “keyword moved from 34 to 27” and more about whether traffic, leads, and useful pages are improving.
