I have found some tactics that influence AI citations beyond what good SEO alone provides. I know that schema is of debatable value by some, but I have found it effective in influencing AI citations. Citations sometimes pull data from my schema that isn’t included in the page HTML body. I’ve even managed to win citations with links in ChatGPT which is more difficult than other LLMs due to its strong bias towards citing trusted national providers over local businesses like mine even when a geographical reference is included in the query.
