Yes, it’ll work. I’ve seen sites perform really well with large-scale 1:1 link exchanges, but I wouldn’t overdo it if you’re aiming for long-term growth. Ideally, you want to do A-B-C exchanges, but that means you’ll need at least one other website.
That second site needs to be valuable to the other person, so you’ll have to put some real effort into it and treat it almost like a normal website, not just a link building asset. If it has organic traffic or at least a few solid backlinks, people will be much more open to exchanging links.
You can build it on an expired domain that had a previous website and still has some backlinks. You can get one for around $300 – 400, and if you set it up right, you can get a good number of link exchanges from it. If you want to scale things up, you’ll need to be proactive and send out a steady stream of emails every day.
