Page speed is the average time it takes to load your page. The more large images you have and the more external calls you make, the longer the page load.

It matters because long page loads increase the bounce rate. Google likes to serve people the best page possible, so speed is apparently a ranking factor.

Work on your content speed does not matter much.

Yes, page speed is important, and your website should load in under a few seconds.

But, don’t try to spend lots of time and money just to improve your page speed by 0.2s.

In reality, users will stay on a website that loads relatively quickly **and** provides them with what they are looking for.

For SEO reasons, a fast loading website will mitigate the chances of people exiting your website before it has fully loaded. People, in this scenario, could be a potential customer.

I’ve always ranked well for super fast sites built in Dreamweaver.

I stay away from WordPress because I can’t get a fast site with plugins.

Before all the “Yes, you can have a fast WordPress site” folks start harping up. I know my stuff and there’s no way WordPress sites with lots of code can be fast. It’s like a small car towing a giant caravan.
