  • What do we think of these Social Media Management prices?

Posted by seohelper on January 9, 2021 at 8:03 am

Backstory: I came across this agency (based in Chicago). Here’s a breakdown of their pricing models:

    #1: $2,000 per month
    Services:
    3 posts per week
    2 story posts per week
4 hours of community engagement per month

    #2: $3,000 per month
    Services:
    4 posts per week
    3 story posts per week
8 hours of community engagement per month
1 hour of meeting time per month

    #3: $4,000 per month
    Services:
    5 posts per week
    5 story posts per week
12 hours of community engagement per month
1 hour of meeting time per month

    #4: $5,000 per month
    Services:
    7 posts per week
    7 story posts per week
20 hours of community engagement per month
2 hours of meeting time per month
    1 TikTok posted per month

It’s not stated, but I’m assuming these services are for Instagram. Also not stated, is if they are creating the content or being supplied content to schedule/post. And I’m assuming there’s a hashtag strategy, but again, not stated.

My interpretation of “community engagement” is (hopefully) them liking posts and/or viewing IG stories from accounts manually (by hand, no bots) that are strategically picked out based upon a strategy.

Are these prices normal? Obviously experience comes into play, but I haven’t seen prices like this before and I’m in Southern California.

If there are any Social Media Managers in here whether freelance or part of an agency, would love to hear your thoughts!

I’m anew manager and maybe my opinion isn’t as valid but this is kind of a ‘not so great prices’ with the amazing people that I’ve met, who’ve been here for years, their standard rate is 1000-1200$.

Extremely overpriced. By a very large margin.

Id request some case studies or ask to show some proof of work.

My guess is they have zero clients with that garbage pricing structure and seemingly worse service that they offer.

Slash the prices by 50% and you have got the right pricing for the services being offered.

For less than $1000 I would create daily content. But then again I’m a designer not a marketing expert.

20 posts with preparation and 4 hours engagement in a month.

2000 sounds okay. It’s not like you are getting these posts in advance.

If you provide the posts; yes then it is expensive.

But this is about 100 dollars per post excl management.
And it’s in the USA; we aren’t talking about India, Pakistan or the Philippines

Perspective from the other side [I run a digital strategy shop]: I think social media is the hardest thing to truly outsource effectively. Can it be done? Of course. But the biggest pitfall is that it can often become generic, or not fully in sync with the heart of the brand.

My recommendation may be different depending on your industry. If you’re considering spending over $3,000/month on social media, can you instead find a full-time hire who is young, driven, and passionate about what you do? Maybe hire an expert to develop a strategy, KPIs, benchmarks, brand guidelines, etc. and to check in with your in-house person monthly or quarterly for structure and accountability.

I’ve done work with a lot of agencies. My experience is that you’ll get a little bit of attention from a senior strategic/director-level person, and 80+% of the billable work will be done by someone they pay $30-40k/year, then mark up by 4x. That person will be overloaded and working on many different industries. If you’re not one of their larger clients, you’ll get their second-string talent. Alternatively, if they do a lot of work in your industry, you may get content that’s being repackaged for a lot of other companies in your space. (I’m making some huge generalizations here, but it’s based on observations from a dozen or more agencies. Your results may vary)

We tell a lot of our clients to hire for passion for what you do and a strong creative portfolio. If there’s a clear strategy in place, all they need to do is follow a plan and share their passion. They’re in your business all day, every day, so they can make the brand a whole lot more personal than an agency ever will.

    Oh. My. God.

    In a BAD way!

    This is OBSCENELY RIP-OFF!

On Fiverr you could get the same deal for about $100.00 a month. They’d be about as worthless, but at least you’d be saving a lot of money per month.

Social Media plans must be customized if you want them to work. They must fit the goals of your business plan. They are an integral part of your supply chain.

Remember, anyone selling you a “one-size fits all plan” for social media might as well be selling magic beans…

Very overpriced…I am new and charging a real estate agent $300/mo to takeover IG, FB, Linkedin and Pinterest. I post 5x per week IG and FB, while interest and Linkedin is more like 2x per week. Some original content, some repost/quotes/links etc. I’m new and feel like I am undercharging for the number of accounts I handle, but I don’t mess with Dm or message replies. Is this business offering DM.comment responses?

This is extremely overpriced, I have been charging my clients a lot less and doing way more than any of these package offered.
