  • Should I expect organic reach decrease on facebook fanpage name change

Posted by seohelper on March 1, 2020 at 10:29 pm

    Hey all,

I have a facebook page with over 160k likes and now want to move a step further and change the name to some new brand which I am trying to create.

The name is still the same, so I did not submit a name change request yet. Given that that happens and the new name gets approved, should I expect any decrease in organic reach of my page? Of course, I expect that some people might notice name change and unlike the page, but I mean, will facebook feed algorithm somehow decrease my page reach purposely?

I am not fully aware of how this will play out but to make sure nothing too drastic happens, use a couple of days before the name change to post from the page and inform people that there will be a name change and other changes coming to the page. That might even help you get more reach because people will be interested in finding out what is going to change

You should expect at least a 9% decrease in likes as Facebook will send a notification to everyone asking if they accept.

It might actually boost organic reach, in my experience Facebook will test a page’s content after a name change.

The real test will be if you’re audience approves your change. Making it an event to look forward to will best serve you.

Is it possible to keep the original page the way it is? Then you retarget your relevant audience to your new brand, that way you have a.) your new brand page with a great (but smaller) audience, AND b.) the old page which can be used for other things or sold. Just a thought.

To my knowledge, there will be a bit down in reach initially. But if your followers are engaging with the new content then it will be back to same reach.

If I change my name on Facebook to a completely different name, will it still be possible to find and identify me when they search for my real name? my concern is in relation to the research that companies do on their employees’ social networks. I would like to change my name on Facebook and be able to not be found when they search for my real name.
