F&B business owner here, based in the UK.

Will agencies charge more based on how elaborate the pictures will be (e.g. creative food shots with props)?

I have ideas on the overall theme/how the feed should look like but not sure if agencies will a lot. My budget is around £500 per month.

You can give a try to Kimp a service of “all you can eat” graphic design. Is around 300$ at month, but quality of images in my opinion was really poor. Same for fiver. It really depends on the kind of expectation you have. It’s full of graphic designer but good ones are really rare and they charge a lot of money.

Agencies/freelancers will typically charge you based on time and equipment. So, unless you need some unusual equipment, time is the only relevant factor. I’m not sure about UK prices, but it sounds like a good enough budget for a resto photoshoot.

You’ll more likely get more with a freelancer than with an agency, your mileage may vary.

The thing with Instagram content is that you don’t always have to use professional photography, especially in stories. If you want pro photos to start, use the first 1-2 month’s budget on it, then get a social media manager who can help plan/create other content. You can find people on IG. See if there’s activity under #foodphotographersyourcity (or uk). Try also #foodbloggersuk as some of them will be photographers. #smmcity for social media manager.

Try soona. They do virtual professional shoots of your product (you just send it in) and you just buy the ones you want. They literally start at like $39 a piece so you could get a lot of good content within your budget, I would think

The agencies will always charge more. You should approach an influencer on instagram, like a freelancer who would be more that happy to be associated with a brand and won’t charge as much. You will get professional photos.
