  • No more period before a handle in tweets?

I have noticed a quickly growing number of accounts no longer following the “.@handle [rest of tweet]” structure and just tweeting “@handle [rest of tweet]” for tweets that are not replies. Many of these accounts are ones I consider as or more Twitter savvy as I am. The abandonment makes sense given that Twitter has changed how it handles replies and uses an algorithm rather than true chronological order (a post for another time…). But I would still be more comfortable with some sort of official acknowledgement of the switch, so my question is three parts:

Have you also noticed this change? (For how long?)

Have you seen any coverage in the social media watcher world about this move away from a very long-standing shibboleth for telling the old-hats from the newbies?

Where can I sign up to get notifications when things like this change, because my job rather depends on keeping up with such things and it’s getting harder every day?

(note my reddit handle is not related to my twitter handle)
