Hey Guys, I’m looking for a advice regarding Keyword Research.

I’ve a client who is running a local new agency online. They mostly publish local news, some national and international news mostly related to politics, sports, and business. They are reputed brand amongst locals. .

I’ve suggested them to create content on evergreen topics so that we can target new keywords.

Do you guys recommend to update the old news article? In case we want to change the primary keyword for that article.

Do you think writing content on general topics would be a good strategy for them?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks on advance

stick with local keywords target if they are small and just starting out.

if its not much work do it, but if u got bigger priority and its so much work to update those old article, i suggest to stick with your major priority first.

In the long run it definitely makes sense to change the old keywords, definitely not priority number 1 though. As for content on general topics I would say theoretically it can help but in general I would stick with what you know/ are known for so as not to confuse your messaging

I think changing the older articles eventually makes sense. But I’m not so sure changing the scope of all content for a wider audience is going to give good results if they already have lots of local traffic, so no, I don’t think it’s a good idea because it may drive away the traction that they’ve already got.

So maybe the best way to do this is to combine both – I believe they should try to write on said evergreen topics as long as they are topics of interest for the traffic from local keywords. I think Zutrix is your best bet for this, as it can provide location-independent results that will allow you to research keywords without the factor of location and also they provide notifications that may come in useful for this, as they’re a news website
