Is it best to use 10 hashtags or less on Instagram stories? I have watched a few YouTube videos and some people have said to leave the hashtags big and some people have said to shrink them down and put them to the side, do they are hidden, which is best to do?

Edit: Didn’t see this was about stories! Hiding hashtags on stories makes them void. Same source as below.

The algorithm is not affected by whether you use 10 hashtags or 30. Instagram has confirmed this a couple times during interviews with their team.

Source: I attended an event hosted by the BBC which included talks from social media professionals including the former lead of social media for the BBC.

It doesn’t make any difference whether you write 10 hashtags or 30 hashtags in your story. Just keep in mind that it doesn’t clutter your content. While writing hashtags in your story just make sure that hashtag has more search volume as hashtags makes your story more discoverable.

However, they can also ruin the aesthetic of an Instagram story and look “spammy” if you put a ton of it. so it is better to hide hashtags in your Instagram Story.

I’ve been using hidden hashtags for a while now and they do work exceptionally! Just make sure to use only a few hashtags, don’t clutter too much… I usually go for like 5 per story depending on the topic.

For example, I share a lot of music so I put a hashtag in whatever caption I type at the end, and then hidden hashtags #music #electronic #spotify etc.. Just specify as much as you can the hashtags and then hide them by swiping them to outside the screen or putting them behind a sticker or post clip.

One of the reasons why hiding hashtags “doesn’t work” is because people are using too small of fonts. This is a well-known problem, but people keep doing it.

I’d cap at 3-4 and they should be relevant and visible.
