Hi all, title is pretty self-explanatory.

I have a little over 12,000 organic followers (never paid for any growth) with a wedding photography business. I’ve been featured dozens of times on top wedding publications like Martha Stewart, Style Me Pretty, and more. I’ve published a book, been featured on the local news, been quoted on more traditional media sites, etc.

I have tried for years to get verified on Instagram. Each time denied.

I was given the suggestion of removing my Linktree link and replacing with a direct link to my website. I reapplied with that strategy this week. Today I got the denial notification.

Does anybody know if it literally takes knowing someone who works at Instagram to get the check mark at this point? I have another colleague in the same boat as me with possibly even more accolades (and even more followers at 100k) who has also tried for years…seemingly meeting all of the “requirements” yet being denied for not “meeting requirements.”

It’s pretty discouraging, but I am making it my mission of this quarter to try everything in my power to make it happen 🙂 And yes, I know it’s just a blue check mark; but I want it.

If we’re being completely realistic, the verification process for most social media platforms is like a sponsorship: you need to be very famous like a recognizable figure or have a connection within the company.

The generally known requirements are having a lot of followers, being tagged a lot and them being able to identify you as “noteworthy” from a quick search.

Follower count alone doesn’t mean much at all.

It’s about whether or not you are noteworthy to the general public and impersonatable. The biggest way to get them to verify you is to convince them that you are a big deal and that other people are trying to pretend to be you on their service.

I listened to someone on clubhouse recently that said you need a Wikipedia page and some other articles about you/business and some other things that I can’t remember right now. But the Wikipedia page stuck out to
    Me.

Based on all you have said above it sounds like you could benefit from speaking to an SEO expert someone who will establish you more on Google Search engines under keywords like your name and area and industry. Verification is a tricky one because it varies so much but sounds like with all those publications that maybe you are not as searchable as you are noteworthy.

Just my take and something to consider ✌️

You just need to be someone who is highly searched for on the internet.
