How do you know the search volume of a keyword?
I’ve read that third party tools aren’t very accurate. And I’ve read that Google’s keyword planner data gets more accurate the more you spend on ads, so I don’t think I can trust that either. How do you guys find the search volume of a keyword?

Who told you that about the keyword planner? Never once seen any evidence of that. I’ve got accounts where we spend $40k a month and others spending less than $4k a month and the data is identical

You may be misunderstanding the keyword planner. You spend on ads and you are collecting real data.
