I have a video that went viral on TikTok recently and was messaged by WorldStar HipHop about licensing it. They sent me a 5-page agreement that basically transfers all rights to them. I have already submitted the video to other sites, but they only had permission to post them. WorldStar agreement states that they have permission to take action on present, **past**, and future publications of it without their consent. Their Instagram account has 29 million followers so this would be super nice to get reach, and they are offering $50, but the transfer of rights of this video is a bit intimidating.

A whole 50 bucks? I don’t think that’s worth it in any regard but I honestly don’t know. Just seems like a bit much for basically nothing.

    don’t do it.

i had a video go super viral and got emailed out of the blue by a media company making an initial offer of like $13k. talked to a lawyer specialized in that field to check everything was legit – he said, yes and told us to at least double their offer. in the end my friend didn’t want to sell the rights though…

What does the contract mention? For $50 I would expect yougrant them a non-transferable license to use it.

If the $50 are for purchasing the rights to the video then you should peace out. If somebody were to offer you 10k later you would be screwed, that’s WorldStar’s video now, not yours.

There’s a difference between licensing and transferring all rights.

The agreement should be: You get $50 and grant WSH full rights to do whatever they want with the video. You also agree that WSH has scored the exclusive deal and so you can’t enter into another deal like this with the same video. You still are the creator of the video.

Usually deals like this are a profit share; they get your video, they showcase your video, the video generates some funds, you get a small portion of that. For a fight video that has no other vitality to it, $50 would end up being the payout at most.

Basically, I think, WSH wants your video so they can put their branding on it, and then send it out again on the net, hoping it gets picked up by large networks and outlets… before you start doing it yourself.

Also, for $50… the contract should be one page… you should charge an extra $100 just for making you read it.
