    Google Ads Ongoing Issue Check-in

Posted by seohelper on August 23, 2021 at 1:02 pm

Seen plenty of posts regarding the ongoing issues that are facing UK Google ads accounts.

Hoping everyone could sound off in the comments with their experience, how it’s affected them, and a rough summary of their situation just to show it’s not an isolated incident.

We handle an account with a primary smart shopping campaigns and several manual display and shopping campaigns. All combined, a rough daily budget of £1500. Friday saw a total reduction in impressions by around 80%. The weekend was much the same with cost-per-click climbing to the point today where it is well above double what it usually is.

We’ve paused campaigns as we were hemorrhaging money and still awaiting any contact from Google or its reps.

Looking forward to seeing how everyone else is getting on through this massacre.

**Update:** Had information from several advertisers claiming impressions and visibility are returning to normal at a more expected spend. We turned back on around midday and have seen a return to normal. Monitoring CPC to makes sure we’re not getting milked.

Good to see a lot of others in this and other threads starting to get back to normal. Also good to hear we’ve had zero communication from google…

My smart campaigns have been practically dead since Friday. Spend is roughly 10% of what it usually is and zero visibility on Google without going into the Shopping tab. Prior to Friday we were having a great month.

I run another account with manual CPC and that has burned through its budget and doubled my avg. cost/conv over the same time.

Contacted Google but CS said everything was fine.

Manual shopping campaigns are upside down, it’s like priority negative matches are being entirely ignored so all the low funnel-high bids have become high funnel-high bids causing overspend and absolute crap. I would recon CPC has increased because those particular funnel matches are knackered for everyone so everyone’s suddenly bidding really high for that same generic crap.

Additional to this is the results themselves being complete garbage though this might be caused by that same match priority override causing high funnel to feed low funnel.

Right side product knowledge panel is just absolutely fucked, picks one, maybe 2 sellers at random instead of populating top 5 sellers.

Top typical shopping bar now appears rarely causing generic search ads to gain unnecessary prominence and worse experience.

Shopping tab itself for free ads is all working really well, I think they’ve actually given additional prominence to “best match” which will help all of us with some free conversions, but even the paid results in this bit are still knackered.

Honestly, it’s a shit show, I spent all weekend pulling my hair out I can’t believe we’re into day 4 with no major news or reports of it other than a few reddit posts.

£600/day minimum spend. Also a great month up until Friday. All smart shopping campaigns come to a halt today only spent £41. Got a call now with our ads agency to see what’s going on, hopefully they have more insight from their inside contacts at google.

85% decrease in Impressions. 70% decrease in Clicks (but what Clicks we did get are bouncing 20% higher than expected). Avg. CPC went up by 208%.

I’m going to be fighting tooth and nail to get some money back from Google for this.

This is apparently a known issue and being fixed. It only affected UK accounts, starting Friday.

Same exact issue as everyone else Friday onwards our spend dropped by 75%, we noticed Saturday morning, google live chat said shopping support team don’t work weekends. Roughly spend £500k per year and they don’t work weekends, I suppose no one shops on a weekend either. opened a ticket on Saturday and got fobbed off with generic answers went back to them saying there’s an issue and they escalated it, was supposed to have an update from them today but not heard anything chased twice. We run a smart shopping campaign and couldn’t get our ads to show at all, and a lot of our competitors were also not showing. also google ad status page shows green ticks. Anyone ever had a status page that reflects reality?

Any news on this being resolved. Had to pause all our campaigns yesterday after weekend spend rocketed by a factor of 10 and the search terms we have been paying for are utter shit. Lost at least £2k due to extra ad spend and now losing money as we have no ads showing.

Googles silence on this is a disgrace and the power they hold over companies like mine is extremely worrying.

I’m flying through a bunch of test key terms and this is looking like it may well be resolved.

It seems to be going back to normal here, a lot of UK clicks this morning and returned to top spots in results

Is there any route for getting some credit applied to our accounts – the bug caused us to spend at least £2k more than we should have over the 3 days – any advice appreciated.
