Hello all, I’m relatively new to social media marketing and management. I’ve been working at a company for about a year now and I want to change our social strategy.

A lit of our social posts have started sounding like ads instead of social media posts. And obviously they’re getting low engagement. Unfortunately my boss is very adamant about always selling our services.

I want to know if there is any concrete evidence that social posts that are written like ads are penalized by the algorithms. And if not any suggestions on how I should test this so I can show my boss?

So Facebook and pretty much every other social media platform wants to show the highest engaging posts to your followers. When you only post promotional ads to your feed, it lowers your overall engagement and account authority. This makes it harder to get new posts seen by your followers as your authority is being diminished over time. You need to post content that gets engaged with and sporadically post promotional content once you build up your post authority by increasing your engagement.

You can actually increase your authority by using Micro Influencers as well. You can run a Micro Influencer campaign and get them to follow you in social media and then like, comment and share your social media posts. This will drastically increase your engagement and your overall account authority. You’ll need to engage quite a few Micro Influencers to really make this work thought. Hope that helps.
