exclude parts of a targeted search term

Posted by seohelper on March 4, 2020 at 2:10 am

so I have the broad match keyword criminal lawyer and the modifed broad match keyword +criminal lawyer

I want to keep broad match because it’s getting me good conversions and using terms that I can’t fill in myself and would never think of like “how to get an assault with a weapon charge dropped while sitting on a yak”, but it also does a lot of searches that are not so great like “lawyers near me” best lawyer in Kansas” etc.

Is there any way to exclude “lawyers near me” from searches without excluding “criminal lawyers near me” while still keeping broad match criminal lawyer and without using BMM

You can exclude “lawyers near me” as an exact negative keyword.

How long have you been running this keyword for?

Exclude it from that ad group so that you don’t lose that traffic from other keywords, in case you want that keyword anywhere else. I’m not sure how your campaign is structured.

You can exclude them by exact but you’ll probably be in an uphill battle trying to exclude everything while doing straight up broad. You may get a lot of competitor searches , ie someone looking for “ David Lee attorney” or searches for other practice areas like “ssi attorney” “family law lawyer” etc

How long have you been running it for?

Use an Exact match negative on the campaign/ad group. Also, I would **HIGHLY recommend** going through your search terms (note: not just keywords, the actual search terms that triggered those keywords) and seeing what the terms that actually lead to conversions are, and creating exact match ad groups for those specific terms. Please do this, and if you have any questions along the way, feel free to DM me.
