Earning from YouTube
I recently started venturing into YouTube monetization and have a few questions regarding it. The first is – what is YouTube CPM? The next is, how can I calculate it? I did come across this [article](https://reviewzone.media/how-to-calculate-and-increase-youtube-cpm/) that I thought was pretty insightful. But can someone tell me if the information given here is valid or not? But more importantly, is trying to increase YouTube CPM something I should be actively striving towards?

CPM means cost per mille, cost of thousand ad impressions. I don’t know about youtube but in general CPM rates depend on the market, content quality/popularity and seasonality.
I’m sure there are platfrom specific factors for YouTube but in general CPM is your unit price and can be increased by upping your content game.

Basically, YT CPM is the cost a brand pays to YT for showing its ad to per thousand viewers. If it is displayed on your video, you get a portion of this money.
The calculation process on the article you linked seems to be okay, but it does not tell you how a YT will know how much the advertiser is paying. I believe it is more important to focus on the CPM amount paid by different brands and aim to get higher-CPM paying ads.
To answer your last question, CPM is the most basic way of learning from YT. You can focus on it for now. But when your channel starts to go big, explore other options as well.
