Duplicating FB ads deleting all social proof on new copy

Posted by seohelper on October 11, 2020 at 8:17 am

I thought that keeping that “Keep social engagement” box ticked was supposed to transfer social proof, but I’ve tried multiple times and the new ad just shows up with zero shares/comments/likes in both the preview and post-approval.

This is without touching ad-level stuff at all, by the way, or even ad set-level like audience or budget. Mainly asking because the whole “use existing post” post ID thing is a pain in the ass when you have to make a bunch of duplicates. What am I doing wrong?

Are you editing the ad at all? You can duplicate the original ad as much as you like, but you can’t edit it even a little bit. If you do, the engagement won’t carry over from the original post, instead it’ll create a new post to consolidate engagement.

Do the ads use Dynamic Creative? If so, you still lose the social engagement

Generally what I do is make a “storage” campaign for my ads. Then i’ll duplicate from those.

When you duplicate, you do not want to change anything.
