Do removed Google Ads conversions still track and show in reports if they are “removed” but the tag code is left on the site?

Hello, thank you for taking the time to read this question

I have started a new job at an agency and I have been tasked with cleaning up and standardizing how we track conversions. Conversions are currently created in Ads and put into the website code.

I would like to “remove” these existing conversions and create new ones using the Google Tag Manager. If i do this, will my data studio dashboards still count the old ones, even if I “remove” them within google ads? Do I have to remove the old code?

    Thank you very much!

You have a few options here.

Removing = stop tracking but if the code is still on the website then it will fire but won’t register in the account anymore. Usually you want to remove these codes.

“Include in conversions” = for each tag you can just uncheck the box you don’t want to count towards the “conversion” column. It will still track but only in the all conversion column.

Personally, I default to include in conversions as a primary line of cleaning up tags. Once I understand what the other ones are I’ll remote it just so I know I’m not deactivating something that I might need.
