Dispo (new social network)
Business Insider just did a profile of David Dobrik’s Dispo team.
For context, David Dobrik is in the process of turning his Disposable Camera App into a social-media platform. The app (which mimicked the look of disposable camera photos) was already wildly successful.
It had 2MM+ users in it’s first 2 months, and was generating revenue via:
– A paid/subscription version
– The option to purchase photo prints
– In app ads
The platform is being rebranded as Dispo and is said to have a focus on “authentic real-life moments captured without editing.” They just raised a $4 million seed round from the likes of Alexis Ohanian (of Reddit) to bring this mission to life.
David’s aspirations are big and he’s trailblazing what creator driven businesses look like.
David’s already got a massively successful merch line. He just launched a cologne. He is rumored to be launching a pizza startup. On top of it all a Piper Sandler study identified David as the most influential person amongst teens.
I think if anyone could pull it off it would be him.
