  • Best practices for sitemap crawl priority?

    Posted by seohelper on October 14, 2020 at 8:15 pm

    Hey all. I am not the person who set up the sitemap for the website I work on, and I’m noticing that we seem to have crawl priority of 0.5 on our category pages/PLPs (which are pages that change on a near daily basis), while having a crawl priority of 1.0 on our actual product pages (which are pages that typically don’t change).

    Is this backwards? Is it trivial/not that big a deal? Any advice here is great — thanks!

    (I should add: every page has a <changefreq> of “daily”, which could also be unnecessary?)

    Priority doesn’t play much of a role with Google any longer.

    EDIT: Neither does change frequency. Google cares about the last updated tag, so make sure thats accurate, but the other two tags aren’t worth worrying about.

    Google largely ignores this. I wouldn’t worry about it.

    * Include a lot of archived content that’s not linked together.
    * Lack external links.
    * Have hundreds or even thousands of pages.
