Anyone ranked with on-page seo & internal linking only(without external link building)
Curious, has anyone got the experience(or case study) that your page got ranked for competitive keywords by doing internal linking only?
How do you plan it?

Just structure and content, make sure it all links.

You can’t rank for anything at all competitive with zero links. It’s absolutely impossible.
Can anyone show a single example of a site ranking for something competitive with zero links?

I’ve done around 300 “link plans” for my link building clients which involve a full competitor link type analysis and not once have I came across a site with 0 links ranking. The only exception would be a site with links and 0 links to that specific page or possibly a super niche local site/super niche topic no one has covered.
The whole “you just need content” movement really is absurd. Yes you need good content but you also need external verification that the content is valuable and links from good quality and relevant sites are the “vote of confidence” google needs to trust that website enough to rank the page and put it in front of people searching for it.

I hate link building. I would love to say it’s not necessary, but that would be a lie.
I do have good results without intentional link building, though. Just not as good as it would be I did.

I’ve seen sites ranking with little links for low competition keywords, yes. Not for ultra-high competitive terms that bring in $$$.

Sure did it a couple of times. not with kw that have thousands of searches, but when you then start ranking for them, then dozens of other combos with that kw you also start rank for and thus can hit well over 300-500 clicks per month to the page. So it depends on what you mean with competitive keywords.
And of course when you rank you start getting links organically and that power you can drive into new articles which makes it easier to rank new them. Especially if they are somewhat topical related.

Depends if you mean without building your own links or ranking without any links to your content.
I have ranked many pages by producing good quality content but the ranking improvement is accelerated when that good content is naturally linked to.
You only have to look at newspapers to see that is the case. They invest absolutely no time and effort link building as it happens for them. All they do is produce well written engaging content that is locally or nationally relevant and the rest happens organically.
