  • Any suggestions to grow and get interaction for a brand that focuses on helping animals in need?

I started a brand not too long ago. I had a niche of animal lovers, 22-35, in college / out of college and in a relationship, engaged, or married.

My brand is more on the rustic vintage / handmade style. However, I noticed that I hardly get any interaction with my Instagram posts. I usually only get a few likes from friends and 1 or 2 strangers. Nothing else.

I tried playing around with the hashtags and switched from posting in the morning / evening (11 AM – 12 PM) to the afternoon. It didn’t work for either.

Content wise, I post about the apparel we sell, about one of our partners (a shelter), animal memes, and celebrations (like puppy day, yesterday). I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, and it feels like I’m lost.

Do you post about the animals you help and share their stories? When you post about things like puppy day, is that showcasing the puppies you help or just broadly about puppies? It’s hard to give specifics about the type of posts you mentioned without seeing them but is it content YOU or your target audience would find engaging and appealing?

What hashtags do you use on your posts? I recommend looking at a few similar brands and see what they include for inspiration or to mix it up from what you’ve been doing.

Who does the account follow and engage with? Are you cross posting or commenting on posts from the shelter or other animal brands?

It’s so hard to try and help on this sub since we can’t see specifics but do some research on what similar brands do and think through the type of social content your target audience would find engaging.

Just to echo what calicali said – telling the stories of the animals you’ve helped so far is a great way to share your story and shine a light on the work that you do.

Research – Identify some keywords so for you it could be – rescue dogs, rescue animals, animal shelter [insert location], rehoming, adopt a dog etc. I would do some searches on Instagram of these words and see what people are posting. Set a side a couple of hours and do a good old fashioned deep dive 🙂
