  • Advice on transferring from an old Facebook account?

I work for a public figure. We have about 16k followers on Twitter but our Facebook is a little out of whack.

The previous team started the account 10+ years ago as a personal account with public settings. With current friend restrictions at 5,000, we have to remove inactive or low-engagement friends weekly to accept new requests.

Over the last few years, there was a page developed but it’s only being used for ads or content we want to boost. This page only has about 200 likes.

I think having both a page and a public account is confusing to new followers. It also doesn’t look good since the page has low engagement. And weekly friend management is a waste of time.

My stance is that we should gradually stop posting on the personal account so that we can only have posts coming out of one place: the page. Problem is that we don’t want to lose out on the history (old posts, etc) since it’s 10 years + of content.

Anyone know how we could keep the account history while transferring over to a page? Alternatively, do you have any advice?

You can export account data. That would be the only way to do that in bulk.

I would message all 5k people with a personal message linking the page and explaining it. You won’t get all 5k in terms of turnover but you will get a bit of them. Also, post all of the page posts to the private profile and state the content has moved.
