Added Value of Ahrefs?
Management says SEO can be done with Google Search Console which is free they emphasized, and they refuse to take up Ahrefs or SEMrush.
How would you answer to them?

Search Console is great for seeing what you’re currently ranking for, but how on earth are you supposed to see what competitors are ranking for? How can you see unbiased search volumes to know where to prioritise your efforts? You won’t be able to analyse high performing content in your field, run gap analyses, know your competitors highest performing content. You won’t be able to identify new opportunities.

Basically, Search Console has enough to get some short term quick wins, but longer-term SEO opportunities sit within an external tool such as Ahrefs.

Well the sentiment is correct since you can do SEO without those software.
What you should be worried is the thought, that they believe, that SEO is easy or even worse that anyone can do SEO.
Ps you will be better off start looking for a job somewhere else.
