  • A question about SEO text and the rules that matter

    Hi,

I was wondering what the rules are in 2021 for writing texts in SEO and the amount of text about a certain topic. How much should you repeat yourself? How does Google punish you if you write too much of the same thing?

    For example:

An e-commerce platform has 5 shopping categories. Each category has their own page with text. However on the frontpage they’ve chosen to write paragraphs about each category. The text is a short summary but not a copy-paste of the category pages. The text is accompanied by a h2 tag.

Is that good practice? To have small texts about each category all over the start page? Or should you just have a little generic paragraph about the whole site at the beginning?

    Thanks in advance!

150 – 300 words at the top describing the category….Add a strategy that links up and down the hierarchy of the site.

Link to the department page if you have one, then link down to 3 subcategory pages, and link to top 3 brand pages that produce that category of product.

This adds text and internal linking.

It will skyrocket your visibility if you do this site-wide.

Look at two different websites that do this well opticsplanet.com which is a very well optimized site. Also, search for “softball mitts” – around the third result down I think is a website you will never recognize in your life but beats a lot of the big box stores. They have that exact strategy of adding captions (page descriptions) with internal linking and text decoration ( good for readability). There’s no way that that website should beat the big box stores with the link profile. But the content on those list pages does very well.

I’m writing an entire book about how to write this stuff without having to write for each category, subcategory, brand page etc.

P.S. the book is finished, submitted for publishing.

    Honestly, I don’t overthink it.
I just give Google what they want – relevancy.

High quality content that helps the person searching for it, with relevant backlinks.

Works well for my lead gen business, and I’ve been able to generate thousands of leads a month for my local business owners doing just that.
